Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts is a founding owner of the first announced team in the World Bowling League, according to a statement from the competition’s organizer, League Sports Co.
Betts will own the team alongside business partner Cam Lewis of The One Marketing Group. It will be named Team OMG.
Financial terms of his ownership stake were not disclosed.
The World Bowling League has yet to unveil the rest of its franchise lineup but is expected to operate globally, including in Dubai and Singapore. League Sports Co., which controls the league, is a sports technology holding company also invested in esports and powerboat racing. It is helmed by Adi Mishra.
Betts, 32, carries a personal connection to the sport. In high school he placed third in the 2010 Tennessee state high school bowling championship and has said that if he hadn’t pursued a baseball career, he may have picked a different athletic lane as a professional bowler.
The three-time World Series champion’s decision to stick with baseball worked out financially, as he is in the middle of a 12-year, $365 million deal with the Dodgers.
The eight-time MLB All-Star was supposed to be spending this week playing in a two-game showcase at the Tokyo Dome to begin the 2025 season. Instead, Betts has lost 15 pounds because of an illness and is unavailable to participate, LA manager Dave Roberts said.
